A walk on our Memory Lane : Part I

I hate history, emmm that’s a pretty strong word, let me rephrase it, I am not fond of history. However, I appreciate the past, as it gives us all the reasons for being where we are and who we are today. And the history of our Borneo Sevens and the Borneo Eagles, is almost like a blood relations, it can’t be defined as its in the DNA folks!

Today, we will be bringing you guys down on our memory lane, and revisit our first few souvenir programes for our Borneo Seven Series. Important to note that we only started our Seven Series in 2009, in conjunction with the iRB Seven Series that was parked under our belt. It was not only just an honour to us, but it kinda opened a new chapter for the Borneo Eagles in the Series of Sevens Tournaments.

We started way back in 2001, then known as Inaugural Cobra 10’s Rugby Tournament 2001, followed by 2nd & 3rd Cobra 10s, in year 2002 & 2003. Those days, our tournament was apart of the Sandakan Fest and we didn’t have an official souvenir programme booklet! The Borneo Sevens booklet was “conceived” in 2004 when we had our 4th Borneo Cobra 10s on July 10th & 11th, 2004. Here are some notable pages from the our event diaries :)

The 4th Borneo Cobra 10s 2004, featured 14 contenders, and the preliminary rounds were held on Saturday, July 10th, at 8.30am. First match was between SRU Borneo eagles & Tawau Rugby Club. Among the rest of the Clubs, were the Blackhawks, NS Wanderers, COBRA, Highlanders, Staroba, RMAF Labuan & the Army Stallions.

In 2001, 7 teams partipated, with Osca leading in the Cup Category, and Penjara Sabah declared the Plate champion. The following year, IJM COBRA emerged as the Cup Champion as Highlanders KK, took away the Plate prize in a 10 teams tournament.

In 2003, 16 teams took part and IJMP Cobra Blacks took the Cup prize home, where else RMAF Project Gemilang, was declared the owner of the Plate prize. And in 2004, the SRU Borneo Eagles was the Cup Champion, with Plate and Bowl prize, taken by RMAF Blackhawks & SRU Academy respectively.

Gosh, I sound like a reporter.. a dull one, that is. So, let’s just cut this short. Stay tune for some interesting pages from our 2005’s souvenir programme, coming up shortly!

Pls Untag Me!!!!

Ok folks, I have been keeping myself busy, posting, and reminding, and at the same time, removing unnecessary tags, that not only, causes bad traffic but eating up our cyber mailbox and causing delays to the rest of more important emails meant for the Eagles.

I have not blogged about this before, but I hope by doing so now, once and for all, the messages will go across everyone in our network, not to tag us, for matters unrelated to the Eagles or Rugby, or members and friends of the Club, or any other matters irrelevant to us. Your attention on this is highly appreciated. As mentioned repeatedly in our FB, unnecessary tagging would only cause account blocking! A gentle reminder that we are building our
networks and we hope, everyone will respect everyone else, by using non-offensive languages in future comments of our status updates, photos and event walls.

Alright, now that I’ve got that out of my chest :), lets see what’s in store for us in the next couple of weeks, with the Borneo Sevens just about a month away. The countdown begins, and the committee is fully charged, and equipped with all tools imaginable to perform the delegated tasks. So to all committee members out there, it will be a crazy month ahead, stay cool, and best of luck! To all our guests, we look forward to welcome you, and to all our friends & the Eagles fans, hope to see you guys there too!

To commemorate the countdown of our Borneo Sevens, we will be featuring a weekly write up on our souvenir programme booklets since its inception day, follow by some juicy info on what are the teams competing this year! So stay tune with us, no where else but in the Home of the Borneo Eagles
