Excuse me, “rugby” anyone?

(Picture credits to rugbyrelics.com-they have some great postcards there, folks!)
They “say”, if you don’t have the “balls”, you won’t understand the game. And it takes more than just mere “balls” to master it, cause rugby is more than just a “mere ball” game! This saying may be a little bit “over the top”, and it might be a little bit “inappropriate”, but again, a lot of things depends on how you see it!

For years, rugby has been a major sport in many countries. The history brought us back to the country that started it all, the “country” of the Queen, and soon, “rugby” is translated into many other versions, with different names, rules, but play by “people” calling themselves “ruggers”. And before you know it, bigger names were created, clubs were formed and soon, unions & leagues, all with a common passion. To be the best in the game, and where it might not be “the cup of tea” for everyone, it is the only “winning bread” for others who live their lives for it.

I am not going to go down on the history lane here, guys! As “history” although, tells us about our past, and leads us to the future, it would be a “boring” subject to bring up on a Monday morning! But I will be talking a little bit further, if I may, about our SRU development programmes and what is the “force” behind it.

SRU and SRC, is the combined force behind rugby development programmes in Borneo. We cover youth development that focuses not only in early exposure to the game, but most importantly, character development, that teaches us positive values, self-discipline, perseverance apart from cultivating teamwork, inner-strength, and the courage to accept “defeat” and rise above it. In the home of the Borneo Eagles, rugby is indeed much much more than just a game! And the people we chose and train as young eagles, will learn to capture the spirit, the boldness, without fear, but is brave enough to accept defeat, learn, move on, and strive for better results in the future. To us, we are not just looking for future champions, but we are training for future leaders. So, this game, is no longer just a “mere ball” game, it’s a channel to bring forward young people to embrace the meaning of responsibility, determination, whilst trying to bring out the “best” in them. Through the eyes of the eagles, indeed, we see beyond the game, we see beyond the skills & the strategies combined, we see far, yet close enough, to ensure we nurture the right bunch of talents without jeopardizing what that really counts!

So, where are we are really? Have we succeeded or at least, reach half of our goals if not all? As we try to emphasize on adding in the human aspect to the games, we “ourselves” are re-energizing and re-inventing our “tools”, to ensure we derive with the “best” methodology that may not be ideal, but works out as the best option to train these “gems in the rough”. I can’t say beyond this point, as the “harvest” may take longer in effect, but am proud to say, that the “crew” is committed to the task. We hope to see these young talents soar higher in the future and we are excited to know that, this will no longer be just a “dream”.

In the Home of the Borneo Eagles, we may have the same aspirations, passion, and goals, but we “focus” on more than just a mere ball game!
Have a good week everyone!
