2011- Would You Be A Better Year?
We ended 2010 with a bang, and we started the year, with a bigger bang!
Congrates to our eagles who brought back the most sought after victory in the recent Darwin 7s, you’ve proved to be the best, give it rain or shine. This is our second win after 2010 and we hope, it will be the beginning of a greater journey for the Borneo Eagles.
And what is in store for us, in 2011?
We are in the midst of preparing ourselves for the upcoming HK 10s (March 23rd & 24th, 2011). We have gathered some of the fittest eagles to be with us, and we hope they will do us proud. For our friends, and fans, we look forward to meet up with you guys in HK, perhaps for a good bottle of beer?
A point to bring up is that we will not be managing the National Team to HK 7s, as the “duty” has been sadly taken away from us, after all the hard work & efforts pumped in to qualify the team during last year’s iRB Borneo Sevens. Although some say, it’s all fair in love and war, this however, is unfortunately, not the case. We emphasized on bringing rugby to higher standards in the land of Borneo and we stayed true to our vision of uplifting the standards of the games in our beloved country. It’s sad to see how certain parties are treating this task as a joke! Well, I know I’m not suppose to “bitch” about it, but as reality kicks in, we need jokers like these to make us “realize” our true potentials, and also who we truly are! And in SRC, home of the Borneo Eagles, we are “fighters”, and damn good ones too! So to you, jokers out there, we just want to say, thank you, for making us the better person of the bunch! There were some saying that goes, rugby is a beastly game played by gentlemen, whilst soccer is a gentlemen’s game played by beasts.
I beg to differ. In “our” world of rugby, sadly, there are still so many hooligans and beasts, pretending to be gentlemen? All for the love of the Game, unfortunately, NOT!
Moving forward, we have added on more tournaments to our belts, expect the eagles to be at the National Super League in April-May, Negeri Sembilan Royal Sevens in July, Agongs Cup in June, Jonah Jones in Sep, Kedah International Sevens (TBC), Sing 7s & Brisbane 7s in Nov. We will also be organizing our iRB Borneo Sevens in September, but the Club event will not be held until 2012, to give way to the RWC in October. There will also be our annual local tournaments, starting with the Khoon Siah Cup in April, and other school rugby tournaments, and friendly matches. Which reminded me, that we had a great friendly match with the Philippines Rugby Union last weekend, thank you Guys, for coming over to warm “us” up! We look forward to more future collaboration with you guys!
2011 will also be a year to remember, as we have planned to officiate the beloved home of the Borneo Eagles in July. So, we will have an official opening ceremony, and we will also launch our long awaited website, again, date to be further advised. In the home of the eagles, we will also start our Futsal Court, Sunset Bar and weekend activities. All, for the people who share the same passion with us, stay tune for further updates!
There will also be more development programmes under SRU & SRC, more works on the way to further improve our existing development syllabus, and new faces coming in, to assist us professionally, and to bring the standards of rugby to a higher level. We look forward to the journey of finding gems in the rough, in this beautiful land of Borneo.
Cheers!
