Wow, its been really a long time since I last logged in, been busy.. .. extremely..
We've got like 4 months (more or less) to the upcoming BORNEO SEVENS, with our three categories of events, iRB Borneo Sevens, Asia Pacific Women Sevens & Borneo International Sevens..
Everyone has been running on their toes, with all the events participated by the Borneo Eagles this year. Need to say.. good job everyone!!!! And to the eagles... congrates for doing the Club proud....
Next, the biggest challenge would be hosting these three major events, in one spectacular weekend.. so we are inviting all rugby enthusiasts to be with us, on October 29th, 30th & 31st... where else would you wanna be???
And may I just take this opportunity to wish our Founding President, the Father of all Borneo Eagles & the Chairman of Sabah Rugby Union.. ... happy retirement! Mr. Vela Tan has recently retired from the Board of IJM Plantations Berhad, and has now taken a new exciting career :)

City of Borneo - Another Food Paradise? (Part II)
I love food but is a fussy eater.. so my recommendation for the best places to dine in Kota Kinabalu may not be suitable for many, .... what I will do here is write on some places that I'm fond of.. and some dining places recommended by my friends.., local magazines.. one thing for sure, there will definitely be a place for everyone !!!
The Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu (Western, Eastern & other Varieties)
First on my list, will have to be a place call Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu! Hmmm.. what can I say about this place, I've been here a couple of times, and I notice that its a magnet to many tourists & locals alike. Apart from the beautiful scenery, a good place to loosen up with a couple of beers, there are some good restaurants here. So what else, can you ask for? :) However, I must say that I have not personally tried any of the dining outlets here, but words from many swear that the food is not bad.. Little Italy, Kota Kinabalu (Western/Italian)
A trip to Kota Kinabalu for me is never complete, if I do not stop by at Little Italy. What can I say, I love this place. From the first time, I tried the food, I am now, a faithful fan. This little tiger even won the best restaurant award from the Sabah Tourism Board & the Ministry of Tourism. The menu covers home made & definitely mouth watering Italian Specialties, I personally feel that the best pasta, pizza, and main courses in town is served here. For some great wine & dine, this place is at the top of my list. I am not a food critic, but my taste buds is pretty demanding.. and so far, this place has never failed me! :) This little food heaven is located at the ground floor of Capital Hotel, just opposite hotel shuttle bus stop at Wisma Merdeka Shopping Mall. Coffee Shops in Kota Kinabalu (Chinese Local Delights)
There are a couple of local chinese coffee shops that serve some great local cuisine. However, my pick of the menu, will have to be a breakfast staple, locals just can't live without, known as Kon Lau Mein. "Kon Lau" in chinese, refers to the serving style of the noodles-simply means noodles are served dry and not in soup. Sounds complicated, but what it is - its just basically some good home made noodles, with gravy that comes with other side dishes & sometimes "wanton" or dumplings soup. This favourite is usually served during the morning and runs out by noon. There are many variations, the most popular perhaps is those- home made thick noodles served with pork slices and mixed with a special dark sauce. The best however, are those made using home-made rice or egg noodles. However, when ordering, one could indicate noodles of preference, "mein" are thicker noodles, "mee hoon" is a vermicelli-like rice noodles, or "kuay teow" which are flattened rice noodles. And although pork is a popular preference, some kon lau mein is served with chicken, beef or fish. Where is the best place for this local craze? Try Kuo Man coffee shop in Sunny Garden, or Yee Fung & Seng Hing coffee shops, both located at Gaya Street & Sinsuran.
Fisherman Village or "Kampung Nelayan", (Floating Seafood Market Restaurant)
Located at Taman Tun Fuad, Bukit Padang, Kota Kinabalu, experience of dinning here covers some life cultural dance performances from 7.45pm to 9pm nightly. The most preferred pick from the menu, would have to be local seafood cooked to your liking, or seafood with steamboat. I've been to this place once, and the crowd is amazing. Most tourists love this place, you can tell from the tour busses that usually takes most of the parking area! The food is alright, the atmosphere is pleasant but the highlight would definitely be the cultural shows, as it steals the limelight more often than the food itself! Located at the Ground Floor of the Hyper mall, this place is hardly impressive to look at compares to its peers on the same block. We needed a place to rest, and could not decide on what to have for dinner, and somehow, we walked in to this restaurant, and you have no idea, how happy we were when we walked out :). This place serves one of the best eastern delights, especially their steamed soups. Try it and you will know what I mean. :) One word of advise, if you look at the menu, try to select those recommended by their chefs...yes, it makes lots of difference, trust me :)
Chicken Rice Shop-Food Court (Wisma Merdeka)
This little restaurant is located at the higher floor of Wisma Merdeka shopping complex, where the food court is. They have recently renovated the area, and relocate some of the stalls. One must try the chicken/pork rice served in this restaurant, very popular among the locals, and the place is always packed! I've tried the food, its in a class of its own. One shortfall would have to be the long ques..and the small dining tables.. so, be there early to reserve a good spot. These delicious delights are served from morning to lunch. And right in front of it, there's this malay/local cuisine restaurant, that serves lunches/dinners in buffet style. Comes in very affordable prices, there are so many choices to choose from. I have tried both of these two restaurants, two thumbs up, definitely!
Salut Seafood, the hidden Gem of Kota Kinabalu
I've been to this place twice. One would probably wonder, if the place is that good and worth recommending, why did I just frequent this place twice? One simple reason, I must say.. the place is a little bit far. The first time, I went there, was with some friends, and that was sometime in 1996. The road leading to the area at that time, was not "graveled" and the place was so remote, I was worried that, we would be lost in the middle of nowhere. But when we reached the place, we saw this "wooden-built" floating restaurant, and at that time, the place was not so commercialized. One thing for sure, the seafood is great (perhaps the best in town) and the atmosphere of dining there, was a great experience itself. The second time, I came to this place was in year 1999. Food still good and the accessibility to the place has improved much more. These days, Salut has become one of the most popular dining attraction in Kota Kinabalu. Its about 20 to 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu City, along Jalan Sulaiman Highway. Seafood is cheap- and food is great, what else can one ask for? :)
Kampung Air Seri Selera (formerly known as Sedco Square Open Air Food Court)
This is another tourist and local attraction for seafood and some local delights! Located in Kota Kinabalu's city centre, and walking distance to the cinema, there are a couple of of fresh sea food restaurants here. Food is good, but tourists should really go to this place with a local guide. As most of these restaurant operators tend to overcharge their international customers (unfortunately) :(

City of Borneo-So What Do We Have Here? (Part 1)
Ok guys, this is probably one of the toughest to write about as different people have different views on the best place to shop, dine, and to party in Kota Kinabalu But here are some popular places in town. Lets start with malls ! (Guys, you can skip this section if you want ;))
Shopping Spree...
There are now about 10 major shopping malls-some right in the city of Kota Kinabalu & the rest, just at the outskirts of the center. These malls may not be "world class" impressive but you will be able to find all necessities & luxuries, from local brands to international branded items here. Perhaps the most current significant add on to the list is 1-Borneo, this new kid on the block is presently the biggest hyper mall on the island of Borneo at 4.8 million square foot complex. Known locally as the largest lifestyle shopping mall in Sabah, it consists of 4 international and regional chain hotels, condominiums, auto city, oceanarium & discovery centre, handicraft & cultural centre, spa & fitness centre, amusement centre, bowling centre, cineplex, gourmet lane & supermarkets.
The current most visited mall is probably still the Centre Point Mall. It is located on a 4 acres site and has been operated since the early 90s. There are also Wisma Merdeka, Karamunsing Shopping Complex, Warisan Square, Wawasan Plaza, City Mall, KK Plaza and etc. Although, most of the shops in these complexes carry fixed price items, the goods sold are all reasonably priced especially during mega sales months. Most malls open from 10 am and close at 10pm.
The Gaya Street Fair, held every Sunday, is also a major tourist attraction as you will be able to find numerous handicrafts and other locally made souvenir items. Apart from that, there are also shops all over the city, and you will definitely find interesting items that you cant find anywhere else but in Borneo. Antiques- Merdeka complex has the most antique shops. You can find all sorts of items here including old grandfather clocks, watches, colonial hats, irons, potteries and many more.
Books & Magazines-The largest collection of books about Borneo are at numerous bookshops in Merdeka Complex. Books for sale includes culture, wildlife, nature, flowers and plants, many tropical design and gardening books as well.
Branded Fashion Wear-Most brands such as Calvin Klien, Dockers, Guess, British India, Timberland, U2 and etc are located at Centre Point Mall, Warisan Square & 1-BorneoCell
Phones and Telecommunications-Many cell phone shops are available in abundance in all shopping malls. KK Plaza presently has the most number of hand phone shops under one roof. If you are here for a longer stay, and wish to use a cellphone, the best is to buy a prepaid cell phone card and you get immediate access. Presently, Celcom has the widest coverage. These phone cards can be purchased on most handphone outlets.
Computer & Accessories-The most complete variety of computer hardware and accessories are located at Karamunsing and boast some of the cheapest prices in the city. From the latest lap-tops to every imaginable IT gadget, Karamunsing has it all.
Electronic Items-VCDs, DVDs, Hi Fis in Sabah are considered one of the cheapest in Malaysia. There are many electrical shops located at Karamunsing
Factory Outlets- These stores are available at Warisan Square & 1-Borneo, and is very popular among visitors and locals.
Sports Gear-Such as runners, hiking boots, and etc are also available at most of the malls. Centrepoint presently has the most varieties with Nike, Adidas, Fila, Reebok outlets. There are also some good fishing gear outlets in Centrepoint & Merdeka.
Watches & Jewelry- Watches are also offered at competitive prices and most of the famous brands are available at most of the malls. Centrepoint and Merdeka have the most variety of branded sport watches.
Food...... One can never go hungry in Kota Kinabalu, and that is not an overstatement! Between Malaysian, Indonesian, Filipino, Western, Chinese, Indian...etc.., there is ton of choices, especially known for seafood, the city has no dearth of restaurants and eateries that serve a wide array of gastronomic delights, from Western to Oriental, American to Continental, Contemporary to Traditional and Cheap to Very Expensive ! Believe me, dining out is an adventure itself! Go local is the advice to heed for memorable sojourn. A walk through the city streets and alleys take you from one coffee shop to another. The provide a great way for the discerning visitors to savor Sabahan dishes, minus the exorbitant prices charged by major hotels, and experience everyday life amongst residents here. Restaurants, however, offer a wider variety as they are much bigger and cater to a different set of clientele altogether.

Nature Lovers : Rediscover Borneo (Repost)

Mount Kinabalu-The Pride of Borneo

Danum Valley-Where Greens are at its Best
Danum Valley is located about 80 kms from Lahad Datu on the state's east coast. Touted as the last remaining areas of rainforest in Asia, the Danum Valley conservation area was set up in the mid 80s due to its tremendous biodiversity value. Danum Valley Conservation Area holds over 320 species of trees within one hectare- so diverse is its flora and fauna. Trees up to 50 meters with buttresses encircled by lianas are common to behold here.

The Orang Utan would probably know Sepilok on sight- as this town is internationally known as the Orang Utan Sanctuary. It first started as a rehabilitation centre for young abandoned orang utan to recover and be introduced back into the wild. Danum Valley-Where Greens are at its Best
Danum Valley is located about 80 kms from Lahad Datu on the state's east coast. Touted as the last remaining areas of rainforest in Asia, the Danum Valley conservation area was set up in the mid 80s due to its tremendous biodiversity value. Danum Valley Conservation Area holds over 320 species of trees within one hectare- so diverse is its flora and fauna. Trees up to 50 meters with buttresses encircled by lianas are common to behold here.
